Hello again.A moment ago I updated you of my availability.Again, I appreciate your interest.

My present client (as of Nov 2005), as have most clients in my 30 year career both as employee and contractor, uses me primarily for direct BA and QA service.They also welcome my educational, facilitating and influential skills for cultural change (CMM and otherwise), informal leadership and skills transfer.

While now (Nov '05) full time onsite, I want to call your attention to ongoing mutual opportunity for me to serve as a very short term and occasional resource to your project leaders for your exclusively staffed projects, or to your account reps for review or tutorial support to your onsite contractors.Or, perhaps best, privately to you or your contractors for individual benefit.

On contract I do this as opportunity permits.Between contracts I do this full time. Either way, it is an extension of having hired and supervised consultants on contract, facilitating their demonstration of ongoing high value to their customer management and peer group.

Below will be of interest not as much to you as a recruiter, but more to your account reps and/or business managers ; and to your associates as a personal and direct resource.

It will strengthen the client's perception of you and your firm's presence and performance to have me available as a low cost and private resource on an as-needed basis.

I'm told naught rhymes with chocolate and purple is but worse.

But so inclined to talkalot do thus aspire to verse.

And whilst our thoughts be ere upon the ear's match to "response" ;

to find the word, good sound inferred, as Cat 'pon lap ensconce.

Our nation's anthem, lofty prose doth speak of mountains purple'd ;

their tops' thin air, so crown-ed bare, as if they had their fur pull'd.

'Tis true this creaky melody may close as rusty door-hinge ;

though doubtably witty it is but a pity I wasn't asked of orange.

On the Road Again - As Ever

[[ of a sunny and hot day's walk on a dirt tobacco road with my daughter and our healthy but flightless pigeon Splat ]] Splat is getting to be quite the jogger, as he still cannot fly, tho is clearly happy in the hand as Melaina carries him to a nearby dirt road to the river, then quite the jogger as he sets a more than decent pace for us other flightless bipeds to follow. ‘Tis a good ongoing scene of Melaina ten feet behind Splat as she and I compare notes on Life, or by moments as I drop another ten feet behind to appreciate the view ahead and try to catch the mix of symbol and substance. Splat is so manifestly purposeful tho of what be known but to him. And apparently light of heart if not of mind ; perhaps (necessarily?) the lot of pigeonhood, tho it is catching and not without occasional merit for the rest of us. Tends to have me doing bars of On the Road Again ; tho Willie don’t quite cover it. There’s something about a trail of little long-toed footprints in the dust ; and even more the little dust-cloud stirred up alongside him in the sunlight, ‘specially when ya also see a little bobbing-head bird shadow as part of the image ; which shifts my in-the-head tune to Me and My Shadow. Thought it particularly cute as he followed a sharp bend in the dirt road, correctly ignoring the tamped grass path that went straight. Not sure what’s past the next curve for me either, or Melaina, but there’s sumthin’ to be said of Splat’s energy and example of Ever Onward ; to the next windmill or otherwise. Creatures of the moment we all, it seems ; and don’t that bear a ponder or two. = = = = = Update a year later - Splat is a hen, mated with our other flightless rescue Boo, mutually happy and attentive to and with each other and each producing a clutch of two infertile eggs every several weeks, and in what i can only interpret as a form of pigeon chess known but to them (if anyone), move the four eggs about the infirmary in a determined and changing pattern that is not mine to see. Ever Onward, indeed. = = = = =

of Mimes, Motives and Mothers

A moment of introduction - wrote this to let my daughters and their mom enjoy the scene they missed as I yesterday took our two moms and my aunt out for a visit and early dinner at a favorite spot near the UConn campus. No names needed changing because no one present was guilty of any more than good intentions, poor hearing and worse vision. But I changed 'em anyway 'cuz I gotta live with all these endearing people

Will take longer to read this than the moment it took to happen, but, if I got it correctly, was priceless.

In a Kathy John's booth during dinner, Lillian and Leone speaking, with attendant problems hearing and otherwise accomplishing the exchange. Lillian lifts napkin and wipes around mouth, apparently perceiving soup or whatever to be removed. Leone observes, knows there is nothing around Lillian's mouth to be removed, so interprets it as a mime signal that she, Leone, has something around her mouth in the same location that needs tending, so lifts her napkin and does so as the verbal portion of the conversation continues. Lillian apparently has not felt what needs removal, so increases the energy and scope of her wiping. Leone interprets Lillian's escalation as a second mime signal that she, Leone, has not located the wayward food, so Leone increases the energy and scope of her own wiping. May have gone yet another "see you and raise you one" increment as, both still speaking, Lillian, ever helpful, perceives that Leone has the same problem and thus needs closer inspection (itself a noble goal with impaired vision) and coaching to get it right. So each is now asking "have I got it yet?" which, in addition to confusion upon the hearing, includes unawareness that it ain't there to be got, on either side of the mirror . Yes, it all worked out.

Lillian, awhile later, did the ritual forgetting to save something to bring home for the dog.

So she cuts off the last inch of Leone's hot dog-with-sauerkraut and wraps it. I suggest the virtue of letting Leone have her dinner until and unless Leone offers it for other use. Apparently independent of that, Lillian now wants a cheese-and-bacon hot dog to eat. Having ordered it, I suggest the virtue of letting Leone have the last inch of her own (and specified) dinner back, and perhaps save some of the new 'dog for Spot. No sale: the impounded 'dog is held. Justice (?), tho, is served (as it were) as Lillian cuts the last inch of her new 'dog and delivers it to Leone, who consumes it with less than culinary conviction. The species difference of 'kraut vs cheese'n'bacon may have been the lesser source of oddity in the exchange ; if only for the extended discourse on the bacon which I omit in this telling.

Lillian is wired to have only the most benign of motives. Thus I can only relate these scenes but, and perhaps never, explain them. Perhaps in thirty years, as my daughters take me out to lunch …

Rush Limbaugh's "desirous ... that a black ... can do well" falls upon my ears as goodwill, appropriate in light of under-representation of blacks in sports leadership positions ; attribution of that as primarily to latent racism ; and resulting media bias of a mild and positive nature.

Ongoing restraint of opportunity for anyone is wrong, and any voice that speaks toward righting it should be welcome. His statement is attacked, as if he meant that "hope" of black progress is rooted in fantasy and futility. Such a view is racist and should be attacked.

And he is attacked, for touching upon an issue that stands in plain sight, for having spoken to the least of the "R-words": not racist or racism but simply race.

He stepped on a third rail. Had he worn the shoes of a recognized liberal, he could do that.As an iconic conservative, touching a wet track of liberal media and politics, a spark was sure even if the resulting fire was a surprise.

His statement can be seen as principled. Lesser assessments prevail.

One might indeed hope, for the day such lesser views will be more widely seen as injustice.

---the Long and Short of Democracy ---

President Bush's speech, [ask, and i will send], says much that is right and important, with these items in particular about the (generic) democratic process :

__" They will not, and should not, look like us. "

__"essential principles common to every successful society in every culture. "

His speech articulates a sound and durable basis for US policy.In application, it needs and deserves challenge, validation and correction from every quarter : public, private, political, legislative and judicial ; to ensure our actions reflect it.

Mr Bush, and Mr Safire, omit a perspective that provides the broadest understanding of why this policy legitimately, and necessarily, is an ongoing national and historic "calling" that warrants forceful support :

The democratic process acts as no other system does

to generate both a level of conflict and pace of resolution

that best serves an ever broadening good.

More than any system, it generates adversaries, within and without,

whose "broadening good" is at someone else's expense.

At a low level it is topic of legislation, law enforcement and political reform.

At a high level, it is why we go to war.

There are circumstances in which to do that.

They have to do with callings, and this speech reflects them.
